Kanyakumari ………Land of Triveni Sangam

           Kanyakumari also known as Cape is the southernmost tip of India where three seas meet (Triveni Sangam) and located in Tamil Nadu State. Famous for sun rise and sun set on same beach. Bhagvathy devi temple is the famous temple of South India. Kanyakumari is also called as “The Land’s End”.

                 Kanyakumari-Rameswaram-Madurai is a holy pilgrimage combo destinations visited by  all pilgrims from all over parts of India.

How to Reach

Kanyakumari is very well connected by air, rail & road ways.

By Air:

Nearest Airport to Kanyakumari is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport located nearly about 90 km from Kanyakumari. Airport is served by international and domestic airlines. Very well connected from all Indian metro cities and abroad as well. Once you reach Thiruvananthapuram you can take cab or board a train or there are many buses operating.

By Rail:

Kanyakumari is very well connected by railways from different parts of country, journey is time consuming but pocket friendly. Kanyakumari station is a terminus where the railway line ends here and is located in the heart of city.

You can get a train Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Jammu. Nagercoil, is another station 20 km away and Trivandrum is 90 km away from Kanyakumari which is well connected with metro cities of India. And from here you can get a cab, bus or another connecting train to Kanyakumari.

By Road:

There are regular buses from almost all the major cities of South India which run between Bangalore, Trivandrum and Coimbatore.

And also, you can enjoy drive by hiring cab from Trivandrum which is well connected with highways and roads.

Duration of Stay in Kanyakumari:

Minimum of 1 day with planned itinerary is fine to visit Kanyakumari, and if you want to explore as holiday 2 days is perfectly ok to enjoy and explore.

Places to Visit:

1.Vivekananda Memorial: It is a famous tourist monument in Kanyakumari ,stands on rock in the middle of the Ocean. It is said that  Swami Vivekananda  attained enlightenment on  this rock.

2.Thiruvalluvar Statue: This statue is situated on rock 500m from mainland in the memory of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar.

3. Bhagvathy Amman Temple: This temple has significant importance. Many devotees come here to seek blessing.Just near to beach and sunrise point.

4.Gandhi Mandapam: It is built in the honour of Mahatma Gandhi.

6.Kanyakumari Beach: This beach just 2km away from city centre where we can enjoy Sunrise.


7.Sunset Point: we can enjoy sunset here it is just 2km away from city centre.

8.View Tower: View tower is near to beach area, where you can view the splendid waves of Ocean from top of the tower,it is just half km from beach.

9.Tsunami Monument: It is constructed in the remembrance of the people who lost their lives in Tsunami in Dec 2004,it is nearby to View Tower.

10.Wax Museum: Wax statues and 3D paintings are very interesting. One must visit the museum and takes just 30 min to complete visit, snapping pics here is enjoyable

Best Time to Visit Kanyakumari:

Ideal time to visit Cape is between October to March when the climate is not so humid and hot. Also, we can enjoy Jetty to Vivekananda Memorial.

Things to do in Kanyakumari:

1.Do not miss Sunrise and Sunset at the beach, be at the beach at 6.00am in the morning for sunset and 5.30 pm onwards for sunset.

2.Having Triveni  holy bath at Triveni Sangam which is considered sacred and holy in Hindus is one of the important thing to do in Kanyakumari.

3.Take a Jetty ride to Vivekananda Memorial and Thiruvalluvar, the jetty operates between 8.00am to 4.00 pm.

4.Enjoy the playing at beach, play in sand, build house in sand.

5.Enjoy ice golas and vinegar dip fruits are must try near beach area.

Things to buy in Kanyakumari:

1.Sea wealth like Shells, many decorated souvenirs made from shells, at least one piece of this shells handicrafts are must buy from here.

2.Woven sarees are one of the things to buy.

3.Palm leaf drawings are best things to buy.

Food of Kanyakumari:

Being a vegetarian I have tasted authenticated South Indian   Idly,dosa,Vada,Pongal, Kothu ,steam rice rasam,sambar,poriyal.

Pazhha sarbat is famous bevarage especially in summer.

Sea food is famous, especially Traditional Fish Curry.
